We painted self-portraits and made a display for the classrooms out of pictures of ourselves.
At the end of the first half term the children in Reception enjoyed a morning of activities linked to the celebration of Harvest, and to the season of autumn. Parents were invited in to join their children to explore the indoor and outdoor environments, and the wide range of different activities on offer.
It was fantastic to see so many parents attend the session, and sharing in the learning experiences with the children. Everyone had a fantastic morning!

We have talked about how to care for animals and some of the children have been sharing photographs of their own pets with the class. To end our topic we went on a trip to Banham Zoo where we had a great day looking at and finding out about all of the different animals that live there.

We have been very lucky and have had lots of visitors coming into school to help us learn more about the different jobs that people do to help us. We met paramedics and doctors, fire fighters, and police officers. We all had a great time looking at the emergency vehicles, and trying on the police jackets and hats. We talked a lot about what we would like to be when we grow up, and we learned about the jobs that people in our families do.
We have been learning about the celebration of Chinese New Year. We began by finding out about the Chinese zodiac and the story of Emperor Jade the animal race. We found out that 2017 is the year of the rooster.

At the end of the week we had a visit from Miss Gina from Music and Movement. She led a Chinese New Year dance workshop where the children experienced Chinese music, tried using chopsticks and also used the dragon and lion puppets that would typically be seen at new year celebrations.
