We are currently creating a single website for Toftwood Infant and Junior School Federation.
This site and all content is currently being reviewed and updated.

Sports Competitions & Festivals

It is our aim that all our children in Key Stage One will get the opportunity to represent the school at a sporting competition or festival, organised by the West Norwich and Dereham School Sports partnership or other, during their time in Key Stage One. Children will be chosen to take part in a sport that they may not have had the opportunity to participate in before. We feel it is important that children get the chance to experience different sports and physical activity types during their Infant school years. Therefore children will not necessarily be chosen to represent the school at sports that they participate in outside of school hours. We believe in giving all children a fair chance and fostering attitudes of good sportsmanship.

Sports Fortnight – 26th June – 7th July 2017

Karate

All year groups have been busy with sporting activities during our annual Sports Fortnight.

The week started off with Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 children enjoying a Karate Taster Session with Matthew from TKF. They learnt some of the basic rules and moves.

Zumba

The week continued with Year 1 and 2 children taking part in a lively and fast moving Zumba lesson. All the children thoroughly enjoyed joining in with this activity and getting their heart beats racing through dance exercise.

Tag Rugby

Mr Mann from the Dereham and West Norwich School Sports Partnership came to give Year 1 and Year 2 children a workshop on tag rugby skills.

Preschool Team Day

The local preschools along with the children from our Nursery had their own Team Day. The children got to try lots of new activities with their grown-ups.

Team Day

Our Team Day which had been postponed from the previous week due to bad weather was able to take place and we were very fortunate to have the Sports Leaders from Northgate High School to help run the activities. All the children got split into teams and had a go at 20 different multi skill activities.

Cheerleading

Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 children had the opportunity to try the sport of cheerleading with Miss Coombes. They watched part of a cheerleading routine, got to try some of the jumps and even had a go at stunting in groups.

Gymnastics

A busy day to end our fortnight saw Reception and Year 1 children involved in a gymnastics session with coaches from Easton Gymnastics Club. The children played a fun warm up game, then practised and learnt the names for some gymnastic moves and finally had a go at some balancing along the benches and performing a jump at the end.

Athletics

Year 1 and 2 children also had an Athletics Skills workshop with children from Neatherd High School. The children did a variety of activities to help them with the skills of running, jumping and throwing.

What a fantastic couple of weeks!

Key Stage 1 Cross Country Competition

On Thursday 9th March, 32 children from year 1 and year 2 at Toftwood Infant School took part in the West Norwich & Dereham School Sport Partnership Key Stage 1 Cross Country event at Taverham High School.   This is part of the school’s commitment to offer a range of sporting activities for the children to participate in, and to encourage them to try new sports that they may wish to pursue in the future.

The children were organised into teams for the event.  The Year 1 girls and Year 1 boys each had their own race and completed 600m.  The Year 2 girls and Year 2 boys each ran 800m.

The children were excited to run the races, and all of them completed their courses – some with a little encouragement!  Everyone got a number showing their place, and medals were awarded for the first, second and third places in each race.  Nearly 70 children took part in each race from the participating schools.  We achieved 3rd in the Year 1 girls’ race, and 5th in the Year 1 boys’ race, narrowly missing out on a medal in that one.  All of the children ran well, and participated with enthusiasm and showed great sportsmanship! We are very proud of them all.

A fantastic effort from all the children for taking part so enthusiastically!

Easton Gymnastics Competition

Wednesday 8th February 2017

A group of children from Year 2 went to Easton Gymnastics club to take part in a competition. The children had the opportunity to work with the Sports Leaders from Taverham High School and coaches from Easton Gymnastics Club. The first part of the day was spent trying out all the new equipment in the gym. They were able to have a go on the beam, bars and trampolines. Their favourite part was jumping into the foam pit! After lunch, the children performed their routine to the judges. They remembered everything they had learnt and performed very well! Once the routine was done, they each had to perform a vault element. The children waited patiently for their scores and found out that they came 4th out of 12 teams! It was a very enjoyable day and the children had a wonderful time. Well done to everyone that took part!

Key Stage 1 Sports’ Hall Athletics

On Wednesday 18th January, 21 children from year 1 and year 2 at Toftwood Infant School took part in the West Norwich & Dereham Key Stage 1 Sports Hall athletics festival at Easton Tennis Centre. This is part of the school’s commitment to offer a range of sporting activities, encouraging active participation and encouraging children to try new sports that they may wish to purse in the future.

The festival had 8 different athletics based activities for the children to try, where they practised skills of throwing, catching, running and jumping. Each school was partnered with another school so the children could make new friends and work together as a team with different children.

The children had a great afternoon trying the athletics activities. It also gave ideas to staff to take back to school to try with a wider range of children.

Garwyn and Gracie both said ‘It was so much fun!’

Ethan said ‘I’m so pleased I came, it was like the Olympics!’

Outdoor Adventure Activity Festival

On the 18th of October 12 children had the exciting opportunity to go to Taverham High School to take part in the Outdoor Adventure Activity Festival. The children got the chance to work in team solving problems and completing sports activities led by the Taverham High School students.

Unfortunately the Great British weather turned it into the Indoor Adventure Activity Festival but that didn’t stop us from having fun!

The first activity the children took on was called ‘Funny Faces’ where the children were given the map/diagram of some funny faces and had to work together to complete the faces. As quickly as they could the children needed to run up and choose one object at a time to add to the faces.

Next, the children had to work together as a team to find number cards in the right order to spell a word by running to find them. After that the children worked to collect different map sections to piece together over the top of a picture. They worked very hard as a team and although it was a little tricky at first, kept going to make sure it was right!

Finally the children worked together in teams to match map symbols together with their corresponding words. It was a hard search to find the right symbols but the children didn’t give up and managed to match as many as they could.

What a lot of symbols they managed to match!

The children had a fantastic time at the event and represented the school fantastically with their behaviour. Hopefully next year the outdoor adventure will actually be able to be outdoors!

Trigolf Competition

Monday 23rd May 2016

A group of year 1 and 2 children went to Easton College to take part in a Trigolf Competition organised by Dereham and West Norwich School Sports Partnership. They were able to participate in 6 different activities to improve skills needed to play golf.

All of the activities throughout the event were led by Sports Leaders from Hellesdon High School, and competitors were given the opportunity to have a go at skills before timed events took place and children had to score as many points as they could in a given time.

Our children did very well and all gave their very best effort – they were all a credit to the school.
