On Monday 3rd December, 23 boys and girls from across the Junior school attended a Swimming Gala at Dereham Leisure Centre.
When we arrived at the Leisure Centre, we got changed and found our special area to wait for our races. There were 11 other schools competing, with lots of children at different stages in their swimming lessons. Even though it was a competition, we still made sure we cheered everyone on and encouraged everyone to take part.
We all sat behind our school’s sign and waited for instructions. Before the races started, we had to make sure we were all really quiet so that the umpire could check all the swimmers were starting correctly.
The races were all organised in categories, which were front crawl, back stroke and breast stroke. All the children did exceptionally well and tried their very hardest, but because we were in the first ‘heat’ rounds, we wouldn’t know if we would win or not in any races until the end of the day.
Special mentions from the day go to Olivia, who came first in her heat for the breast stroke. Anastasia was overall winner for the front crawl and Lois and Oliver were fantastic runners up for the backstroke. As well as this, all of the children should be commended for their determination and perseverance. It was absolutely fantastic to see the support and encouragement they were giving each other, especially as this was some of our younger participants first swimming Gala.
Miss Skinner, Mrs Sugarman and Mrs King were incredibly proud to take such responsible, keen and encouraging children to be ambassadors of our school. We are already looking forward to next year!
